Boys & Girls Clubs receive $320K learning center funding. Sussex County Boys & Girls Clubs will benefit from a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant in the amount of $320,000. Funds will help establish or expand community learning centers that provide students with enrichment opportunities when school is not in session. The competitive grant application was open to local school systems; interagency, interdepartmental, community and faith-based or other private or public organizations; or a consortium of two or more of them proposing to provide services to students and families of students who primarily attend schools eligible for Title I school-wide programs or schools that serve a high percentage of students from low-income families. These services may include tutoring, mentoring, homework help, academic enrichment, music, arts, sports, cultural activities and community service opportunities. A 21st Century Community Learning Center must serve the families of participating students through family literacy and engagement programs.
