HBO Max to release series about abducted Evansdale cousins Lyric and Elizabeth
EVANSDALE, Iowa (KCRG) - HBO Max is set to release a three-part documentary series about the abduction and deaths of Evansdale cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins. Eight-year-old Elizabeth Collins and 10-year-old Lyric Cook disappeared on July 13, 2012, while riding their bikes in Evansdale. Investigators found their bikes but no sign of the children.
Construction projects at North Fork Whitewater Park, 1st Street
Work began Tuesday along the north side of the shoreline of the North Fork Whitewater Park, from the 1st Street bridge to the railroad bridge. The river will remain open and visitors will still have full river access. However, you are asked to stay away from the construction zone. The work is expected to last for the rest of the week.
One person in custody after authorities chase FedEx tractor trailer on I-80
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A pursuit of a FedEx tractor trailer on I-80 resulted in the driver being taken into custody after being hospitalized. The pursuit began around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday night on westbound I-80, with the Nebraska State Patrol pursuing the semi. Other law enforcement agencies soon joined in, including the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln Police.

Treasurer Smith Seeks Iowans’ Help Reuniting Lost Purple Heart
DES MOINES, Iowa – State Treasurer Roby Smith is recognizing National Purple Heart Day by asking for Iowans’ help to reunite a Purple Heart held in Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, the State’s program for returning lost and unclaimed property. “I don’t think I can adequately put into words the magnitude of emotions I felt holding a Purple Heart for the first time,” said Smith. “Those same emotions inspire me to reunite Garold Hayes’ family with the Purple Heart found in his abandoned safe deposit box. I call out to Iowans to help us return this medal to the care of his family.” Hayes died in Sept. 2015 at the age of 76.

BELLEVUE’S Bently Ernst, son of Chris and Katie Ernst, who was recently named the State Winner of the annual patriot essay contest, “What the Flag Means to Me,” sponsored by Bellevue American Legion Post #273, was recently honored at the State Summer American Legion Summer Meeting in Des Moines. Ernst was not only the winner of the 5th Grade Essay Contest locally, but across the entire state of Iowa, and was selected as tops out of more than 400 entries.
