Mat-Su takes down Chugiak-Eagle River in come-from-behind fashion
At the beginning of the month, Mat-Su scored at least ten runs in three out of four games, culminating in a 10-4 victory over Peninsula on the Fourth of July. At that point, it looked as though the explosive, game-wrecking offense that the Miners had displayed during their 4-1 start was finally back, this time to stay. Instead, that win would be, to date, the last time Mat-Su scored more than four runs in a game, let alone ten.

Checklist for our visitors
This is an essential list—you need—if you have visitors. And this is the time you need it—because this is the classic visitor timeframe in Palmer, Alaska!. Hikes—There are easy hikes in the Palmer Area and there are really ragged hikes. For normal visitors, the Butte hike is extraordinary. The view is wonderful. The Morgan Horse Trail and Lazy Mountain are also terrific although be alert because there are several bear sightings on Lazy Mountain. You can also indulge in the huge mountain peak trails, which are hard and somewhat technical. Information about these trails are available at Aktive Soles and the Backcountry Bike Shop.

Miners snap skid in tight Mulcahy win
A rainy weekend in the Anchorage area meant both the combatants in Monday’s game were coming off long periods of inactivity. For Mat-Su, a deflating 4-1 loss to the Glacier Pilots gave way to an eventual three-day break, while the Bucs lost the second leg of the annual Mayor’s Cup series against their Mulcahy Stadium roommates and had to wait as well. Offensively, the rust definitely showed, but the Miners grinded out a 1-0 win – their third win this season by such a score – nonetheless.
