Omena is campaigning for their next mayor but it’s not your usual election. Instead of voting for people you’re voting for pets!. The election began in 2009 and has been going on every 3 years since. From dogs, cats, horses, and even goats.... any animal can run for mayor in Omena! This year there are 18 mayoral candidates. Each vote is $5 and goes towards the Omena Historical Society to help with building maintenace and upkeep.
Ability Garden helps fill summer therapy gap for local kids
Tucked behind Traverse City’s main library branch, on the banks of Boardman Lake, sits the Grand Traverse Area Children’s Garden. Every Sunday, members of a program called the Ability Garden meet up at the garden’s gazebo. It’s a gardening program designed for children and teenagers with various neurological and physical disabilities. When school is out for the summer, it can be harder for kids and their families to find services like physical and occupational therapy that they usually get in their classrooms.
Cherry Pie in the Sky: Two Cherry-Themed Summer Recipes
Cherry Festival is over, but the party doesn’t have to end! For the next month or so, cherries can be found around every corner Up North. To U-pick all the rubies your heart desires, one of my favorite spots is Santucci Farm on Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City. Just a stone’s throw up the peninsula, you’ll find Edmondson Orchards if you’d rather purchase from a roadside farm stand. Make sure to buy at least a quart of sweet and tart each, and while you’re at it, look for unique varieties like Ebony Pearl and White Gold.

TRAVERSE CITY - Microsoft has experienced an outage worldwide impacting different services. One of which is flights. Cherry Capital Airport has its own experience. So with that, we immediately did an inventory of all airport systems. So make sure our safety and security systems were all intact and operating fine. Our next step then was to talk with the FAA to make sure all those systems were fine. And then the TSA. So once...

Yet somehow, “We are and have always been a 100 percent gluten free, dairy free, soy free bakery from the beginning, and 99 percent of our menu is also egg free and vegan,” says owner Heather Burson.

Into the Vines with Aurora Cellars
Ever wonder how the wine gets made? Curious minds can join Drew Perry, Aurora Cellars’ head winemaker, in the vineyard on Sunday, July 28, at 11am. Attendees will take a tour of the vineyard to see young and old vines, grape crops ripening for the harvest, and sustainable farming practices at work. (Be sure to wear proper clothes and shoes for the outing!) You’ll also enjoy a picnic lunch and several of the award-winning wines Aurora has produced over the years.
