No action following statement of Eclectic town clerk
It was supposed to be a meeting to discuss the fiscal year 2025 budget for the Eclectic Town Council. Instead Monday’s council meeting turned into a two-hour executive session hearing accusations of misspending of town funds, a hostile work environment and slander. Mayor Gary Davenport said he and town clerk Shannon Duck have been discussing a situation for a week or so. The mayor felt the matter was important enough to delay the budget discussion to allow Duck to make a public statement before the council headed behind closed doors to hear from Duck, Eclectic police officers, town staff and Alexander City clerk Stephanie Southerland.
Elkmont cuts the ribbon to ‘new era for community’
ELKMONT – They say you can’t beat city hall. So, the folks of Elkmont went a step further – they built city hall. Well, actually, they built a town hall. “Since the 1800s, the governing officials of the Town of Elkmont have met in various buildings with multiple purposes,” said Mayor Tracy Compton. “The new town hall marks a new era for our community. Beloved Bessemer business United Textiles suffers severe smoke damage from nearby blaze

Trussville City Council honors student athlete, updates public on Chalkville Road expansion
TRUSSVILLE, Ala.—Family and friends were in attendance as Jackson Howell accepted two honors at the July 24 meeting of the Trussville City Council. Council member Alan Taylor read a proclamation honoring Howell for being the first person in Alabama to ever receive a scholarship from the National Football Foundation. The NFF announced 84 incoming college freshmen athletes to its 2024 Team of Distinction.
