Inmate dies after being found unresponsive at Lucas County jail
An inmate died after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Lucas County jail, the county sheriff’s office said in a statement. David Webb, 52, was found Sunday afternoon by jail staff, who rendered aid before he was taken about 5:45 p.m. to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Mr. Webb had been arrested and booked into the jail Saturday morning by Oregon police on strangulation and domestic violence charges. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was investigating his death Monday.
World's largest peace torch relay passes through area on Thursday
The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, the world's largest peace torch relay, is scheduled to pass through Toledo on Thursday. A team of 12 international runners will traverse the North American route of the global event to help spread the message that peace begins with each individual’s inner peace. Welcoming ceremonies are planned at 1:30 p.m. at Monroe Street United Methodist Church, 3613 Monroe St.; 3 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Toledo, 2250 N. Detroit Ave.; and 5 p.m. at the Perrysburg Heights Community Association, 12282 Jefferson St., Perrysburg. The Peace Run launched in 1987 and has visited more than 150 countries. This year’s USA Canada Relay started April 15 in New York and stops at several cities before returning to New York on Aug. 17.

Perrysburg softball standout Griggs holds her own under national spotlight
IRVINE, Calif. — The experience of playing in the PGF Futures All-American Game was rewarding for Perrysburg rising senior Hayley Griggs, and she feels she has more than held her own. Griggs was named MVP of the contest, a Class of 2026 versus Class of 2025 clash featuring many players from larger states — often with better weather conducive for more year-round outdoor workouts. “It’s tough,” Griggs said following the game in the California sunshine. “They’re able to be out here all the time, so you got to make sure you’re getting indoors and getting your work in.” Griggs, who has committed to Florida State, was chosen as the game MVP after going 2-for-2 with an RBI in a 7-0 win.
