Drought conditions spread in Ohio, though Northwest Ohio improves
CLEVELAND, Ohio—While some places in Northwest Ohio improved from last week’s dry conditions, more than a quarter of Ohio is now experiencing a moderate drought. Due to below-normal rainfall, southern Ohio counties have now begun experiencing moderate drought, meaning 28% of the state is now experiencing drought conditions, an increase of 21% from the previous week, according to Wednesday’s update from the U.S. Drought Monitor. The data for the update is through Tuesday.

Spotted lanternfly seen for second time in Michigan
Michigan has become a home for many invasive insects over the years. One insect has yet to fully inhabit the state but has just been spotted for the second time in two years. The spotted lanternfly is a brightly colored insect known for its red, white, black and tan appearance, as well as its spotted wings. However, they're known to suck the sap from trees and vines, damaging them and attracting other insects and even mold to the plants.
Wood County Museum tells local history, hosts Free First Friday event
BOWLING GREEN — Make-your-own USA-themed sunglasses were the featured craft on Friday as the Wood County Museum hosted its monthly Free First Friday and Make-and-Take Craft event. The Wood County Museum offers free admission and craft-making to all visitors on the first Friday of each month. Admission is usually $7, or $6 for seniors and students and $3 for children. The monthly affair runs thanks to partnerships with Visit BG Ohio, Visit Perrysburg, and the Rossford Convention and Visitors Bureau. This is the first year the museum has collaborated on events with cities from across Wood County. “We've had some that have started coming out every first Friday to see what the craft is,” said Annette Wells, director of the museum. “So we do get recurring people.”

Monroe County sheriff: 2 men injured when boat crashes into Bolles Harbor seawall
MONROE TWP. — Two people sustained critical injuries Thursday night when their boat crashed into the seawall of the Bolles Harbor channel. The incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. near channel marker No. 10, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported. Central Dispatch received several 911 calls of a boat sinking near the entrance to Bolles Harbor with people in the water. Deputies and fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene and found a 62-year-old Monroe man and his 38-year-old son clinging to the rocks near the Hoffman Memorial Fishing Pier. They were pulled from the water by rescue personnel and transported to Mercy St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo for treatment of critical injuries.
Helicopter makes crash landing Thursday west of Maybee; no one injured
LONDON TWP. — The pilot and passenger of a helicopter were not injured Thursday morning when the aircraft made a crash landing in a farm field in northwestern Monroe County. The 51-year-old pilot from Newport and his passenger were returning to Willow Run Airport near Ypsilanti when the helicopter experienced engine trouble, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported. At about 10:45 a.m., Monroe County Central Dispatch received a call from a citizen advising that a helicopter had crashed near their home in the area of Oelke and Yensch roads in London Township.

DUNDEE — Monroe County sheriff's deputies responding to a burglary alarm at a Dundee car dealership early Wednesday made an unexpected discovery. Deputies found the Williams Brothers Dodge Chrysler Ram dealership on North Ann Arbor Road had been broken into, but they also found an additional vehicle on the lot, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported.
