Lopez, Braves run over by Reds in 4-1 loss
The regression monster came for Reynaldo Lopez in all sorts of ways on Monday night as the Braves dropped a 4-1 decision to the Reds in the series opener. Lopez came into the game with a 1.88 ERA, 3.05 FIP, and 3.79 xFIP, and tallied a 6.00 ERA, 5.15 FIP, and 4.72 xFIP in the game, leading all three marks to creep upward, with his ERA and FIP both getting marginally closer to his xFIP as a result. Meanwhile, the Atlanta lineup didn’t do anything against Hunter Greene, whose 4.14 xFIP on the night basically mirrors his 4.17 seasonal mark, but whose ERA and FIP ended up falling because he allowed no runs and no homers amid a 7/3 K/BB ratio. So it goes.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Atlanta Braves – July 22, 2024
After the worst possible result in our nation’s capital over the weekend, the Cincinnati Reds (47-53) turn to Hunter Greene to try to right the ship against the Atlanta Braves (54-44). Atlanta comes into this series in second place behind Philadelphia in the NL East and solidly in control of the first wild card spot. The Braves are getting it done with pitching, as they have the second-best team ERA in the National League at 3.46 behind only the Phillies. (For context, the Reds’ team ERA is 3.88).

J.D. Vance Loves Diet Mountain Dew: "I'm Sure They're Gonna Call That Racist"
Ah, Diet Mountain Dew: a drink so iconic that Lana Del Rey wrote a whole song about it. In it, she sings, "You're no good for me, but baby, I want you," which is, I guess, how Republican VP hopeful J.D. Vance feels, as well.Addressing the crowd at a rally at his old high school in Middletown, Ohio, J.D. professed his love for the beverage in a strange way: "I had a diet Mountain Dew yesterday, and one today. I’m sure [the Democrats] are probably gonna call that racist."To his statement, the crowd went, well, mild. There were some awkward...
Growth industry: Local farmers describe how they got in and stayed in the business
For many consumers, “buy local” has become a credo as they consider the carbon-footprint impact of shipping produce cross-country or from abroad. Wanting to support their community’s economic growth is another key priority that steers them toward offerings from local farms, as is the sense of community gained from farmers’ markets as we strengthen neighborhood connections in the post-pandemic world. And, finally, fresher produce grown closer to home tastes exponentially better.

As the Cincinnati Bengals make their way back to training camp, one question looms large in the wide receiver room. No, not about Tee Higgins, but Ja’Marr Chase. Following Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson signing a record-setting contract, the natural thought was that Chase would be next in line. Since then, we haven’t heard much about Chase and his team’s negotiations with the Bengals.
