In Staten Island, New York, there were many tow trucks (across the five boroughs) who had participated in the second annual “Hero’s for Heroes Run" that occurred this past Saturday evening.

You see, the run itself was run by J&J Towing Company, located in Mariners Harbor. According to Buzzfile, they have been in operation for at least 49 years or so and provide a very high-quality service.

You can see the map below to find the location of the towing company:

This run first started back in 2020, during the initial stages of the ongoing pandemic. From the sounds of it, this run first happened because of a need to respect and honor the people who helped us survive the ongoing pandemic, such as doctors, paramedics, nurses, officers, and many more.

According to Juan Serrano, of Mariners Harbor and of J&J Towing Company:

“We started it [the run] last year when people couldn’t go out. We got together and started delivering heros and drinks to the EMS, FDNY, precincts, and hospitals, as a thank you from the community."

Furthermore, many people have not really been able to celebrate much these days, and any excuse for warm celebrations is more than welcome.

Plus, some might be curious about the procession of tow trucks that drove along the many important pit stops, some of which included police stations and hospitals. The run itself started off at 7:00 PM at Ocean Breeze.

The very first stop was the Staten Island University Hospital, which is also located in Ocean Breeze. You can see the map below to get a better idea of where the hospital is:

The procession was made up of tow trucks that displayed the American flag proudly. They did this as a sign of ar respect for the many first responders across the nation, including those local to the area.

There were many other stops along the way including:

    • FDNY’s Rescue 5 in Grasmere
    • Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton
    • NYPD’s 120th Precinct in St. George
    • NYPD’s 121st Precinct in Mariners Harbor
    • NYPD’s 122nd Precinct in New Dorp
    • NYPD’s 123rd Precinct in Tottenville

The tow trucks that were in the procession included vehicles from far and wide (including some from neighboring areas), such as:

    • New Jersey
    • Queens
    • Brooklyn
    • Long Island

    As Juan reportedly mentioned:

“Sometimes we don’t thank our essential workers and admire all the work they do for us. We aren’t working as much as they are, and they keep us running."

From the sounds of it, the event was very much a memorable event and a great mark of respect for those who helped our communities during the pandemic.

I think more of these runs should occur across the nation, since many of us may take for granted the help that the first responders provide us in our daily lives.

For the people of Staten Island, New York, I'm sure many people were happy and appreciative of the gesture. Perhaps there will be more drivers and spectators, especially in the years to come. In due time, we can only wait.
