In New York City, New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio has enlisted the help of Clive Davis, a music producer, to create one of the greatest musical events ever.

We've all been dealing with the ongoing pandemic and the Central Park mega-concert will be a way to get both locals and tourists to enjoy what New York City has to offer.

With this in mind, the celebration will highlight a revival and interest in the local and international music scene. It is expected that thousands upon thousands of people will show up at the mega-concert.

    As the Mayor mentioned:

"The concert will be in August. It will celebrate the summer of New York City, the comeback, and it will emphatically make the point that there is no stopping New York. It's going to be a great lineup. I know it's going to be a great lineup because we turned to literally one of the greatest figures in music industry history - Clive Davis - Brooklyn's own."

For now, there are some celebrities that are set to take part in the grand event. This event is scheduled in the Great Lawn section of Central Park on August 21, 2021.

For example, the three celebrities expected to attend are:

    • Paul Simon
    • Bruce Springsteen
    • Jennifer Hudson

    Paul Simon

Paul Simon is a Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter. Before pursuing his acclaimed solo career, he was a part of the rock-folk duo called Simon & Garfunkel.

Paul is a native of Queens and had previously headlined Central Park concerts in the past. For example, in 1981, he had a free concert with Art Garfunkel and it brought in hundreds of thousands of people.

Then, in 1991, he headlined another concert, and it also attracted hundreds of thousands as well. It was believed to be one of the largest audiences in music history (at the time).

Here's an old clip of Simon & Garfunkel when they performed at Central Park:

    Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson is a philanthropist, singer, and actress. She first became famous due to the singing reality competition American Idol. In 2004, she was a finalist for the third season of the show, where the winner was Fantasia Barrino.

Afterward, Jennifer Hudson went on to become a well-respected singer and phenomenal actress, earning many awards like an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and two Grammy Awards.

Jennifer Hudson is a native of Chicago, Illinois.

Here's a clip of Jennifer portraying Aretha Franklin in the movie RESPECT. This movie hits theaters in August:

    Bruce Springsteen

Finally, we have Bruce Springsteen. He is a respected musician, singer, and songwriter. Releasing 20 studio albums, he is quite the powerhouse. Bruce Springsteen, a New Jersey native, will also be headlining the homecoming mega-concert.

He recently has a smash-hit Broadway show called "Springsteen on Broadway" that has been running New York City for a limited string of performances, where some ticket proceeds are going to charity.

For now, his Broadway show is the first Broadway show to reopen since the theater industry fully closed due to the pandemic.

Here's a trailer of Springsteen on Broadway:

    More Details About the Mega-Concert

From the sounds of things, Mayor Bill de Blasio is probably pleased with the mega-concert. According to him:

"Three amazing artists have stepped forward and said they want to be part of the comeback of New York City. They want to help us do this and we are really appreciative of all three."

    He also reportedly stated:

"This is going to be a memorable, once-in-a-lifetime week in New York City."

It seems that Mayor Bill de Blasio originally wanted a three-hour show for 60,000 fans and at least 8 famous musicians.

For now, though, it seems that most tickets will be free. It is estimated that at least 70% of the tickets will go to people who can verify that they received their shots, so be mindful of the safety precautions and laws in your area.

For now, the city estimates at least 56% of New York City residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine (or more).

    Final Thoughts

For now, this mega-concert will be a part of the city's homecoming week, and it will include other big events planned in the five boroughs.

The homecoming week was first developed through the brainchild of Danny Meyer, chair of the New York City Economic Development Corporation Board. Apparently, Danny Meyer has a history of working wonders for the hospitality industry and could help boost the people and businesses in New York City.

    As the Mayor once mentioned:

"When he came on board with our team he said let's do something that really pulls all the pieces together - let's have a homecoming week. And then we said, 'What would be the focal point? What would be the highlight of this week?" We decided to do something classic, iconic, a massive concert in Central Park to celebrate the rebirth of New York City."

For the residents, locals, and tourists in and around New York City, perhaps this mega-concert may be of interest to you.
