The Foo Fighters Grossed Out $1.4 Million in Historic New York City Concert

After a long slumber, Madison Square Garden, located in New York City, New York had finally reopened to the bombastic sounds of the Foo Fighters, one of the most famous rock bands of all time.

This happened on June 20, 2021.

They were kicking off their 26th-anniversary tour and were the first band to appear in well over 460 days (this is not factoring in their earlier intimate show in Los Angeles), and were the first show to be featured at Madison Square Garden (MSG) since March 10, 2020.

Yep, the last time MSG had a sold-out show was on March 10, 2020, where The Brothers performed.

The Sold-Out Show

The Foo Fighters sold out instantly and 15,000 fully vaccinated fans were at the iconic venue. They sold over 15, 371 tickets and, according to Billboard, and grossed out $1.4 million. Across the 662 shows since 2015, MSG often caps at roughly 15,140 people.

It's not really shocking if you think about it.

The people missed their fantastic rock bands and wanted to come out with a bang. Plus, since 1995, the Foo Fighters have grossed over $209.7 million and have sold over 3.38 million tickets across their 300 headline shows.

This was the band's fourth trip to MSG and their 10th major show in New York in general. This tour marks the beginning of their summer tour, where they plan to go to other summer arenas, festival shows, and many more.

Their next stop is Los Angeles. Their next show will be at the L.A. Forum on July 17th, and then they will get to their Cincinnati gig on July 28th.

A Historical Significance

What's fascinating and historically significant about this specific performance at MSG is that it was only accessible to fully vaccinated attendees and it was the first show to open at MSG since 2020. If you were a child under 16, you were exempted but still had to bring proof of a negative COVID test.

Spookily, there was one Canadian superfan who wanted to attend but was denied because they were vaccinated with AstraZeneca instead of the other brands (which are FDA approved). One could imagine that this one fan was really sad about this.

To top it off, the Foo Fighters have to ward off anti-vax protestors who stood outside their sold-out MSG show, and their previous intimate show from Los Angeles. It seems that the protestors will be the new norm these days, especially as more and more concerts take place this summer.

For now, The Eagles are scheduled at the MSG for August 22 and August 24 this year, while Rage Against the Machine will be running from August 8 to 14th, and the Pet Shop Boys & New Order will be performing September 28. Banda MS and Dan + Shay will also perform in September.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

As the Foo Fighters continue to cement themselves as one of the best rock bands ever, it is amazing that they were inducted into this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's great that they have had such an impact on both the rock music and pop-culture scene for almost 30 years at this point.

Final Thoughts

On the upside, it's amazing that America, and New York City specifically, are taking their health seriously while having a great time listening to some amazing music. A lot of venues have also taken extra measures like social distancing, proof of vaccination, and many more.

Here's to hoping that things get better in New York City. The people deserve some happiness after dealing with the trials and tribulations of the past few years.
