OPPD Workers Return From Helping Utilities In Iowa/Illinois
The Omaha Public Power District crews that went to Iowa and Illinois to assist with power restoration efforts after damaging storms are returning home to Nebraska. OPPD officials say that 17 employees were dispatched to Iowa and Illinois after thousands of people lost electricity following a derecho earlier this month. Officials say mutual aid is about utilities helping utilities restore power to customers.
Commodity prices hex Rural Mainstreet Index
(Omaha) -- One of KMAland's leading indicators still shows the region's economy stuck in the mud. Creighton University's Rural Mainstreet Index report sank below growth neutral for the 11th straight month. The survey of bank CEOs in a 10-state region--including Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri--show July's overall reading at 41.3--down from 41.7 in June, and lowest reading since November, 2023. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program Monday morning, Creighton University Economist Dr. Ernie Goss says weak agricultural commodity prices are the main culprit behind the continued economic doldrums.

During the recent Nebraska Game and Park Commission’s meeting in Ogallala, they announced a new species hunting season will begin in 2025. There will be two seasons for Mountain Lions. The first season will begin in January and end in February. If a female has not been harvested, a second season from 15-31 March will be held.
