Newly released camera footage has surfaced depicting two passenger jets nearly colliding in mid-air over Syracuse, New York .

Knewz.com has learned that the Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) has since launched an investigation to determine the extent of the error leading to the near-miss.

The incident was captured on a police cruiser’s camera and depicted the two flights – reportedly operated by American and Delta Airlines – passing close to each other with the Delta aircraft still in its climbing phase.

According to reports , the two jets passed within 800 feet of each other after traffic control permitted the one to take off and the other to land on the same runway.

Despite what it appeared to be from the ground, the planes were not on a collision course but flew “dangerously” close to each other.

The Delta Airlines aircraft is said to have had 76 people on board and the other flight, 75.

Neither airline’s passengers were injured, but the incident has drawn attention to the current safety measures in place.

The FAA has since released a statement saying: “An air traffic controller instructed PSA Airlines 5511 to go around at Syracuse Hancock International Airport to keep it separated from an aircraft that was departing on the same runway.”

Delta Airlines also weighed in: “Endeavor Air and Delta will work with aviation authorities as we always do in our shared commitment to safety above all else.”

The close shave comes days after another incident involving a passenger jet seconds after it left the runway.

The United Airlines aircraft was climbing out of Los Angeles airport when other pilots on the ground at the transport hub noticed one of its wheels fall off and reported it to the control tower.

Air traffic control relayed the message to the affected aircraft, which continued its journey to Denver.

Knewz.com quoted an account by one of the passengers indicating that everyone else on board only became aware of an anomaly when they neared their destination and the pilots informed them of an impending emergency landing.

Said passenger, Allen Stubblefield, told the press:  “(I've) been through many safety procedures and you get to the point where you're half-listening or barely listening.”

But this time it was different. As the plane neared the runway a cabin crew member got onto the PA system and called out “brace, brace, brace.”

“It was not the smoothest landing and I didn't expect that. There was a bump, but that was it,” Stubblefield recalled.

The aircraft involved in the incident was a Boeing , and while no one was injured, the incident added to a string of embarrassing (and in certain cases, fatal) mishaps involving the once unassailable American aircraft builder.

The dropped wheel was the second such incident in recent times with the first occurring in March 2024, resulting in severe damage to several vehicles in an airport parking lot.
