For a few years now, Lush, the inventor of the bath bomb, has been teasing the Lush Bath Bot, a waterproof Bluetooth speaker that sits in your bath water and plays music and light shows to make your bath time more fun, enjoyable and relaxing. Now, the Lush Bath Bot is finally available to pre-order and it might be the coolest bath tech product ever .

Described as the ‘ultimate bathing companion’, the Lush Bath Bot is designed to be used alongside Lush’s other bathing products to create a fully immersive experience. Aside from the fun lighting and subversive design, the Lush Bath Bot cancels out one key problem that many people have when bathing: dropping your phone or speaker in the bath!

So, how does the Lush Bath Bot work? And is it worth the money? As someone who loves having a bath, specifically with a bath bomb and bubbles, I was excited to give the Lush Bath Bot a try to find out.

Lush Bath Bot review: price and availability

The Lush Bath Bot is £150 and is available to pre-order at Lush . It comes in black or white, and works alongside the Lush app which is free on Google Play and the Apple Store .

Lush Bath Bot review: unboxing and set-up

The Lush Bath Bot came in a nicely packaged box with Lush branding. Inside was the Lush Bath Bot, its accompanying wireless charger cable and a charging stand. To get started, I placed the Lush Bath Bot on its stand and charged it fully, which didn’t take much time at all.

Once the Lush Bath Bot was charged, I downloaded the Lush app and connected them by holding down the Bath Bot’s buttons while the app searched for it. As the Lush Bath Bot turns on, it makes a small musical note before flashing different colours as you connect it.

Once the app and Bath Bot are connected – which took about two minutes to do – the app will explain how to use it before taking you to a page with the list of playlists and music available – more on this later.

Lush Bath Bot review: design and features

The Lush Bath Bot is a wireless, waterproof Bluetooth speaker and colour display, which offers 180-degree sound and immersive colour to create a ‘super-powered sensory bathing experience’. Measuring 79.6mm width and 70.9mm height, the Lush Bath Bot weighs just 200g, making it super lightweight to hold and use, and giving it a good amount of buoyancy so it sits in your bath water.

Available in black and white, the Lush Bath Bot has a circular shape on its top half, which houses the speaker system in the middle, and on/off, plus and minus, and play/pause buttons around the edge. The bottom half has a geometric shape and is where the light is displayed and the part that submerges in the water.

The Lush Bath Bot is designed to bring together the smell, sight and sound senses, with its display of colours and custom light and sound cycles. With the Lush app, you can choose between different moods to enhance your bath, and will run through different colour combinations. If you’d prefer to listen to your own music, rather than select a Lush-created playlist, you can connect the Lush Bath Bot to your music app of choice, including Spotify and YouTube, and it’ll cycle through rainbow colours.

Lush Bath Bot review: Lush app

The Lush app is free to download and has a very easy interface. It takes hardly any time to connect the app and the Lush Bath Bot together, although this is a step you’ll need to do each time you want to use it. Aside from the Lush Bath Bot functionalities, the app also lets you buy other Lush products and book spa experiences.

The Lush Bath Bot is sectioned into different Experiences or moods, and you can choose from Awake, Sleep, Play, Love, Rave and Dark. Each option tells you the duration of the experience and will suggest an accompanying bath bomb to go with it.

The one drawback to the Lush app is it doesn’t move onto another experience once the playlist ends. While you can quickly press the play/pause button to start it again, you’ll have to select another experience on your phone. Aside from that, the Lush app is fun and easy to use, and has plenty of options to play with.

    Lush Bath Bot review: performance

I tried the Lush Bath Bot both in and out of the bath, as you can use it as a normal speaker by placing it on its wireless stand – whether you’re in water or not! I really liked the design of the Lush Bath Bot and its accessories, and appreciated how simple the entire set-up process was.

Using the Lush Bath Bot in the bath was extremely fun, and the variety of lights, colours and music really enhanced my bathing experience. Aside from the Lush app’s experiences, I also used the Lush Bath Bot to play videos on YouTube – it was quite funny and to lie back while it played Real Housewives arguments as it completely juxtaposed the relaxing environment I was in!

I was kindly invited to see the Lush Bath Bot in action late last year before I got my hands on it for this review. In the store, I got to see that when the Lush Bath Bot went the wrong way up in the water, it quickly corrected itself before the speaker expels the water. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the same experience with this when I tried the Lush Bath Bot at home.

Instead, I found that the water got easily stuck in the top which caused the music to stop and sound garbled while it tried to push out the water. I found it easier to tip the water out of it myself, which disrupted the relaxing feel that I was going for. Another negative that I found was that the buttons on the Lush Bath Bot were extremely hard to press and I found it easier to adjust it using my phone – which almost defeats the point of not having to use your phone in the bath.

    Lush Bath Bot review: verdict

As the first of its kind, the Lush Bath Bot is extremely impressive and fun to use. The variety of lights, colours and sound cycles create an immersive experience and take bath time to the next level. It’s a great concept, although it falters in some areas, like water getting stuck and garbling the speaker and the buttons being hard to press – the price is a drawback, too.

Would I use the Lush Bath Bot again? Yes, but I won’t put it in the tub next time. Following my tests, I’d probably just prop it on the side of the bath so I can listen to music while relaxing. It’s a nice added extra that if the Lush Bath Bot does accidentally fall in the water, it won’t get broken or submerged like a standard speaker or your phone would.
