Easton and Redding Voters Approve School and Fiscal Budgets in Recent Referendum
On May 7, 2024, the Town of Easton and Regional School District No. 9 held a referendum. The first proposal, to allocate $49,967,940 for the fiscal year starting July 1, 2024, was approved with 570 votes in favor and 130 against. This budget includes Easton's share for the Region No. 9 budget.
Courthouse parking lot to be resurfaced
ANTIGO — At a public property committee meeting Wednesday morning, county officials discussed plans to resurface the parking lot of the Langlade County Courthouse later this summer. Local group providing free invasive plant removal
LANGLADE COUNTY — A local invasive species management organization is utilizing a federal grant it received in 2022 to reduce invasive plant species on local landowners’ properties. Timberland Invasives Partnership (TIP), a nonprofit cooperative group based in Keshena, was awarded a $135,000 Landscape Scale Restoration Grant along with two other organizations from the U.S. Forest Service to remove invasive terrestrial plants from local landowners’ properties. Judge enters not guilty plea for Kieper
ANTIGO -- Friday afternoon at the Langlade County Courthouse, Marathon County Judge Rick Cveykus entered not guilty pleas on all charges against Gary Kieper, who stands accused of embezzling over $300,000 from the Town of Ackley and Langlade County Rural Fire Control while serving as treasurer for the organizations. Cveykus only entered the pleas because Kieper “stood mute,” or remained silent and chose not to enter pleas himself. Kieper will have another status conference July 26 at 1:30 p.m., at which time he has the right to change his pleas should he so desire. According to the criminal complaint, which was based on limited available records, Kieper, now 69, stole $242,684.26 from the Town of Ackley from 2013 to 2023, and $80,458.02 from Rural Fire Control from 2017 to 2023.
Library to host author of fighter pilot books
ANTIGO — The Antigo Public Library will host Mike O’Connor, the author of two nonfiction books about American fighter pilots, this Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m. O’Connor’s first book on the topic, “Ace of Aces,” tells the story of Poplar, Wis. native Richard Bong, the top American fighter ace of all time, while his second, “Badger Aces,” chronicles the lives of all the aces — there were 44 in total — that Wisconsin ever produced. ...
Large pavement project planned for 10th Ave.
ANTIGO — City officials hosted an engineering consulting firm for a public involvement meeting Wednesday night. At the meeting, the firm and officials discussed plans to replace essentially all of 10th Ave. in 2026. The project will replace pavement, curbs, storm sewer inlets and driveway aprons, as well as add bicycle lanes along each side of 10th Ave. and modify curb ramps to comply with American Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. ...

ANTIGO — The Antigo City Council held a committee of the whole meeting Tuesday night to discuss recent events and future plans regarding the Antigo Public Library. At the meeting, the council unanimously adopted resolutions to form a joint library task force with the county, as well as recommendations that the library board make no bylaw or policy changes until the task force is in place and that an advertisement be posted to hire a qualified interim library director. ...
