Sacramento River - Lower - Redding, CA (Shasta County) The 2024 Striped Bass fishing season is about to take off on the Sacramento/Feather River systems and we're ready! Striper camp is set up, live bait is available, and we have boats with a few available dates ready to take clients out for an exciting Striped Bass fishing trip with their friends and families. This is a fishing season we offer every April/May during the Striper spawning migration to the areas above and below Colusa where they stage each year. This a limited opportunity due to the short season but its one of our most popular venues year after year. The action can be fast when fishing for these hard fighting fish and the reward at the end of the day often includes taking fresh Striper fillets home to share with friends and family. We catch countless small/medium Stripers every season and we land a few big ones every year as well. Last seasons biggest Striper was over 40 lbs! Every year we have a boat down river at this time fishing for Stripers and laying out the plans for areas we will be fishing during our season. I'm happy to report that we've already started catching some quality Striped bass in numbers and the season looks to be another great one! We are seeing lots of water again this season and thats always a sign of more fish available during our season. Some of our fishing opportunities in California have diminished in recent years but the Striper fishery is still hanging in there and should continue to do so for many years to come. Its a great opportunity for people who like to fish at every level to come out and feel the power of these great fish even with little or no fishing experience. Shasta Lake - Shasta Lake, CA (Shasta County) Shasta Lake is fishing in true spring fashion and we're catching some nice trout and King salmon! Water conditions are great with minimal debris and great water color. Water temps are hovering around 48-49 degrees. Mornings have been a little slow so getting out later in the morning isn't a problem. Most of our action has been coming at 11:00 or later. Try trolling from the surface down to 20' for the most action. Small spoons, bait, and Brad's kokanee cut plugs have been top producers for me the past few weeks. This is going to be a good year on Shasta Lake and we have already booked an above average schedule for this time of then year. Shasta Lake - Shasta Lake, CA (Shasta County) Shasta Lake is receiving winter water and she's actually getting more than needed to ensure a full pool condition by May. Currently, water managers are releasing 35,000 cfs from Shasta to maintain space for flood control. We are only mid season for our wet weather patterns so keeping the lake down is unfortunate but necessary. The lake is in great condition though and water conditions are currently quite favorable for fishing. We have been running trips 5 days a week and we are catching some great trout! We are seeing a lot of bigger rainbows and a few smaller browns now but that should change soon and we'll start to see the bigger browns more and more throughout the spring season. Water temps are on the cool side and are hovering around 48-49 degrees most mornings. Water color is good and the debris we started to see the last few weeks has really cleaned up with the slow drop in lake levels since the higher releases from Shasta Dam began. We are primarily running the top 15' of the lake with side planers and divers with large to medium sized spoons in tow. Its just that time of the year and spoons are definitely our preferred presentation. As the water warms up a bit we'll start to introduce some brined Shad and Anchovies as well as some Brad's Super Baits stuffed with tuna. Trolling speeds ahve varied with the gear we've been using but 2.5 mph has been a good speed when trolling spoons. If your looking for the big bites jump up to the larger Trinidad Tackle Optimizer spoons and run them in the 3.5 mph range. You're not goimg to see a lot of action but the action you see will be worth the wait. Weather will continue to play a rold in the fishing but soon we'll see more good days than bad as far as the weather goes. The announcement by the California State Parks about the closure of the locally-called 8th Wonder of the World, Burney Falls, for the summer has raised many questions. The $835,000 project is set to start on April 1, as long as weather cooperates. The critical reconstruction work will likely see the popular Falls Loop Trail and Burney Creek Trail shut down into the fall season. The necessary repairs are as a result of the wear and tear on these trails and slopes from heavy foot traffic to the falls and pool areas. Over 300,000 visitors are estimated to visit the park annually.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - The Shasta County Board of Supervisors was hit with a civil complaint over the agreement to relocate the Win-River Casino. Talks about moving the resort and casino started in 2019, but the civil complaint was filed on Feb. 14, 2023 mentions concerns over the Board of Supervisors meeting on July 25, 2023 when the board formally approved the "intergovernmental agreement" between the county and the Redding Rancheria.

Sacramento River - Lower - Redding, CA (Shasta County) The Sacramento River in Redding has consistently produced some great fishing this winter season! Flow's are currently 15,000 cfs and is scheduled to bump to 20,000 cfs next week. Water color is great and it should remain so even after the flow increses. We fish the Sac in Redding in power boats most of the time so access during heavy flows isn't a problem. In fact, we tend to get into some really good fishing during high flows when most days we have the river to ourselves. We had 2 boats fishing yesterday and they had a fantastic time catching lots of wild trout and even hooked 3 German browns in the areas they were fishing. Drifting beads has been very effective dur to the fact we have spawning late fall salmon in the river now. We will be fishing the Sac in Redding in February and March before we head down river to fish for Striped bass in April and part of May. We have good availability if youd like to fish with a guide.
