Sandwich Saturday food giveaway getting new home due to school construction project
Syracuse, N.Y. — A weekend event that hands out free food, clothing and personal hygiene supplies at a small downtown Syracuse park will have a new home a few blocks away. We Rise Above the Streets has been holding distribution events on Saturdays at Billings Park for several years in an event it calls Sandwich Saturday. The effort, powered by volunteers who prepare food earlier in the day at a local school and bring it to the park, draws hundreds of people.

Classic rock band replaces longtime member with a familiar name
Classic rock band Styx has officially replaced longtime bassist Ricky Phillips, who left the band in March, days before a Syracuse concert. Styx announced that Terry Gowan will be the band’s new bassist. He first started performing in Phillips’ place in the spring and will be part of the group on its upcoming tour dates, including a July 30 concert with Foreigner at the Broadview Stage at SPAC in Saratoga Springs.
