Hampden was a great spot to grow up. When I was just a wee lad, I lived in Hampden. Well actually, I graduated from high school there. So I know a bit about how things shake out there, I guess. When I was a kid there were a few big houses, but its reputation as a bedroom town for the wealthy has really only grown over the years.
You Should Buy the Old Hampden Town Office, Then Tear it Down
Living in Hampden now, isn't a lot different than when I grew up there. Well, I suppose that's not entirely true. The high school I graduated from is now a bank/church combo building. The old Academy was turned into a community center when the new high school was finished. I've never felt really comfortable just walking into the community center for nostalgic purposes. I doubt it still resembles much of the way it was when I was there.

Bangor’s Breathtaking 1883 Kent-Cutting Double House is For Sale
One of Bangor's oldest and most distinctive houses is now for sale, with plenty of income potential as well as an elegant home. The Kent-Cutting Double House was built in 1883 by Charles Bryant and features a combination of old-world accents and modern improvements. Charles Bryant had worked in the lumber industry before becoming an architect and so his designs carry one unique signature feature. As you look at the pictures of the outside of the house, notice the wreaths carved into the wood, indicative of its Greek Revival style. Those were carved by Bryant and can be seen on many historic buildings around the city, including the Bangor House. In high school, I volunteered with the Bangor Historical Society on a tour of his buildings and, let me tell you, they are beautiful. This one is my favorite.
