On May 21, 2024, voters in the Arkport Central School District will decide on a proposed budget for the 2024-25 school year. The budget is set at $14,487,248, which is a 5.19% increase from the previous year, adding $715,201. This additional funding is intended to improve educational quality and sustain programs that were initially supported by federal pandemic relief funds.

Alfred State College (ASC) is currently enhancing its campus with multiple construction projects. These projects, with a total budget of over $200 million spanning from 2016 to 2026, aim to support a growing student population and improve their academic experience. This summer, the college has started another phase of development, which includes a major redesign of the Agriculture Science Building, improvements to campus roads, and updates to the underground infrastructure.
Alfred State College Students Innovate to Enhance Campus Mail Services
Students from Alfred State College, guided by Assistant Professors Holly Chase and Susan Gorman, recently showcased proposals to improve the campus mail services. These proposals were the result of a semester-long project by students in upper-level Management Information Systems and Strategic Marketing classes. The project challenged students to develop practical solutions to enhance the mail services at the college.
Enhancing Academic Success: Alfred State's Peer Tutoring Program Thrives with Ongoing Support from Local Foundation
Peer tutoring at Alfred State has been supported by the Educational Foundation of Alfred, Inc. since the 2010-2011 academic year. The foundation annually donates $6,500, helping students meet their academic goals. This funding has allowed the peer tutoring program to handle over 2,482 student requests and provide more than 14,351 hours of tutoring.

At the 40th annual Honors Convocation at Alfred State, three faculty members were honored for their outstanding contributions to student advising. Megan Clark, Nicholas Ford, and Greg Cook each received the Excellence in Faculty Advising Award, recognizing their dedication to students' academic and personal development.
Alfred State Students Host BBQ Fundraiser to Combat Campus Food Insecurity
Students from Alfred State College, guided by Jennifer Ross, organized a fundraising event in their Nutrition classes. They sold Stearn’s chicken barbecue meals and raised $447. This money was donated to the Alfred State Community Needs Hub to help students who struggle with food insecurity.
Alfred State's Al-Aqib Coulibaly Wins Prestigious SUNY Award for Academic Excellence and Resilience
Al-Aqib Coulibaly, a student at Alfred State, recently received the Norman R. McConney, Jr. Award for Student Excellence. This award recognizes SUNY Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) students who excel academically and have overcome significant challenges. Coulibaly, an architecture major from the Bronx, is expected to complete his five-year BARCH program in May.
