Sault community says goodbye to Fire Lieutenant Jason Carstens
SAULT STE. MARIE — It was an emotional day on Tuesday as the community said goodbye to one of Sault Ste. Marie’s finest. Lt. Jason Carstens of the Sault Ste. Marie City Fire Department passed away from a cardiac medical emergency on Sept. 8 while elk hunting with his family in Colorado. He was only 47 years old and leaves behind a wife and two daughters. The service was held at Holy Name of Mary Parish with many first responders and community members showing their support. A close friend of Carstens, Jason Homa, talked passionately about the bond they had and reflected on three important things his life can teach us: live passionately, call someone while you can, and love generously.
