Local Catskill High School Students Advocate for Mental Health Policies at State Level
Catskill High School students, members of the Yellow Ribbon Teen Suicide Prevention Team, recently participated in the Mental Health Association of New York State (MHANYS) Advocacy Day. The event took place at the state capital on March 13. The students marched, rallied, and met with Assemblymember Chris Tague. They discussed the need for policies that improve mental health understanding on college campuses and support overall health equality.
Catskill High School's Class of 2027 to Host Community Nickel/Dollar Social and Raffle on April 27
Catskill High School’s Class of 2027 is hosting a Nickel/Dollar Social and Raffle Saturday, April 27 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at CHS. Choose from hundreds of items, including crafts, decorations, handbags, household goods, small furniture, baby items., gist certificates, and more. $1.00 gets you a sheet of 25 tickets. Local School Early Dismissal on March 20 and 21 for Parent-Teacher Conferences
On March 20 and 21, early dismissal will occur for students from pre-kindergarten to grade 8 due to parent-teacher conferences. Elementary students will eat lunch before leaving at 12:30 p.m., with parent pick-up beginning at 12:20 p.m. Afterschool childcare will proceed as normal.
Varsity Sports Facilities Upgrade Underway at Local Schools
The 2023 Capital Improvement Project, approved by voters, includes the installation of dugouts and outfield fencing at two locations: the varsity baseball field at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School and the varsity softball field on the High School Campus. The Board of Education approved the bids in fall 2023, which led to the procurement of materials and work scheduling. Construction, including fence and dugout installation, has started at both sites. The project is on track for completion by March 2024, weather permitting. This project will improve the sports facilities at both schools.Visit here for more details.

Catskill Central School District Responds to Recent Confidentiality Breach
Dr. Dan Wilson, from the Catskill Central School District, announced a recent confidentiality breach. A district employee allegedly leaked confidential student and employee data, leading to swift action from the administration, including Dr. Wilson and Principal Shah.
Catskill Middle School Earns Local Support and Improvement Designation from NYSED
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has reclassified Catskill Middle School (CMS) as a Local Support and Improvement School. This is due to improved student achievement scores, removing CMS from the list of Focus Schools. Dr. Dan Wilson, the superintendent of schools, acknowledged the school community's efforts.
Catskill High School Students' Project Brings Comfort to Local Domestic Violence Shelter
A joint community service project between Catskill High School’s Fashion Design class and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter benefited the Community Action of Greene County’s domestic violence shelter in Catskill. Fashion students sewed fun pillowcases and FCCLA members purchased new pillows and held a sock collection. FACS teacher and FCCLA advisor Mrs. Merino and the students presented the pillows, pillowcases and socks to shelter representatives on February 12 after school.Visit here for more details.
Catskill community demands school reinstates suspended teacher
From the doors of Catskill Elementary the parking lot was a line of parents and students waiting to find out if their music teacher, Michelle Storrs, was coming back. An incident during rehearsals for the school musical of Cinderella led to an internal investigation of Mrs. Storrs and the high school principal, Junait Shah.
