Bard College is hosting a historic new awards ceremony honoring authors who are pushing boundaries and refusing to have their voices be silenced. As more and more schools and communities try to shut down certain avenues of reading, authors and literary advocates are finding ways to get impactful and meaningful stories into the hands of those who need them.
Why Today is a Special Day For Those Who Protect Our Schools
A special thank you to all of those who keep the teachers and students safe in schools. I remember going to school as a kid and thinking that nothing wrong could ever happen there. That there was this bubble over the school and it was a very safe and happy space for everyone. Sadly, this is not the case and the world has changed very greatly.

RCS Seeks New Transportation Director as Craig Lipps Moves On
Craig Lipps, RCS Central School District's Transportation Director since 2022, is preparing for a career change. Lipps, with almost 20 years in school transportation, has positively impacted the district, especially in student safety and technology. His work on the StopFinder app has enhanced family communication and bus route efficiency.
Local Catskill Student Honored at Columbia-Greene Community College Art Show
Catskill sophomore Callie Rose received an Honorable Mention at the Annual Juried Student Art Show at Columbia-Greene Community College. Her folded heart book design was acknowledged at the opening reception on February 8, 2024. The event displays artwork from students in Columbia and Greene counties.
Local VFW Post 770 and Businesses Donate Essential Supplies to Catskill Elementary School
The Sullivan-Teator Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 770 in Catskill has donated to Catskill Elementary School (CES). Post 770 representatives, Nicole Borgen, Jim Stalker, Jason Borgen, and Maria Rothrock, visited the school. They delivered books for students in grades 3-5 and supplies for the Cats Care Room, a facility providing school essentials to families in need.
Local RCS High School Seniors to Showcase Artwork at Regional Exhibition
The RCS High School Art Department has selected two senior students, Sonia Snyder and Kaitlin Strokes, to present their artwork at the Juried High School Students Art Show. This event is hosted by Columbia-Greene Community College and features the work of regional high school students.
