UNLV Men’s soccer fell 1-0 to San Diego State at home on Oct 3. San Diego State’s Terrance Okoeguale and Austin Brummett led the charge to help lead the Aztecs to victory. Are The Aztecs primed to build upon their winning streak? Giving up an average of 22 points per game is putting the onus on the Aztec offense to kick into gear. The Aztec defense has let the MWC know they have arrived. Long a hallmark of San Diego State teams, the defense has been a stalwart leader. The issue has been an offense that stretches the field and can create havoc among other teams’ defenses. Only averaging 21 points a game leaves the Aztecs on the short end of the stick, almost where they found themselves last week against Hawaii. If it were not for the defense again, the Aztecs would be nursing yet another late-game loss. Instead, they have lots to focus on as they get deeper into conference play. As dominant as the Aztecs have been in the past running the ball, teams would have to key on stopping the run. This year’s version is one running back whose defenses can key upon. Another player in the mix, sort of an inside/outside tandem backfield could throw opponents off. The importance of having at least a short passing game will offset the run. The Aztecs seem to have that as quarterback Danny O’Neil has been good at finding those short outlets. A longer game to stretch the field is needed to avoid teams stacking the box. Wyoming brings a tough solid line and backers who will be physical and want to inflict damage at the line of scrimmage. The Aztecs will be well suited to try and get their skill players in space. Coach Sean Lewis says, “The physicality and the way that they’re connected stands out. They play well, they play hard, and they know their scheme pretty intimately.”

On Monday, the Grossmont Foothillers came up short against the Steele Canyon Cougars and fell 18-7. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Foothillers came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Cougars are ranked 310th).

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer scored four second half goals to defeat UC San Diego by a final score of 4-1 Wednesday night at Titan Stadium. With the win the Titans improve to 6-3-4 on the year and 2-0-1 in Big West play. Fullerton also extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games dating back to its win over Utah Tech on Sept. 1.
