Roar! You Can Take a Look at Some BIG Cats in This Indiana City
The year 2020 was a challenge for everyone, but there was one documentary released at the time that gave us all something else to focus on, at least for a short while. When Netflix's Tiger King hit TV screens, I told myself I would never watch it because it looked utterly ridiculous. Well, upon running out of things to do in isolation, I decided to give it a try, and yes, it was even more ridiculous than I could have imagined. That said, I was glued to the screen for all eight episodes.
Local filmmakers dive into Putnam County's Civil War history in 'A Generation at War'
It was another day at work for three old men as they gathered in the frosty cold to film. On the wooden steps of the playhouse, Alan Backler, 82, clapped the black-and-white film slate. The morning was 20 degrees. Filming the scenes would take hours. Backler felt alive. He and...

A Hiker's Path: What is there to see at DePauw Nature Park? Vultures, a quarry and more
It was a sunny, early spring day when I drove up to Putnam County to visit one of my favorite nature parks. The DePauw Nature Park used to be the site of an active limestone quarry from 1917 to 1977. Hanson Aggregates, who owned the quarry, donated most of the land for the park to DePauw University in 2003 and additional acreage was purchased by DePauw over the last few years.

Efforts by Spence Taylor and Kati Taylor — not related but both passionate about local arts and music — have brought some light during a what could have been a dark time for many performers. They secured a location for more than a dozen musical groups to celebrate the April 8 total solar eclipse after Shadowfest at the Monroe County Fairgrounds was canceled.
