As South Dakota sues federal government over Title IX, school districts await guidance
Although the school year is almost over for most Sioux Falls-area schools, by the time they come back in session this fall, new Title IX regulations will be in effect. That’s because the U.S. Department of Education released its Final Rule under Title IX on April 19, with several changes, including prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity (which includes protections for being transgender or nonbinary, for example) and sex characteristics in education programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance.
Nuns Who Founded University Harrison Butker Spoke At Condemn His Speech
The female group of nuns who founded the college in which Harrison Butker infamously spoke at, have spoken out and condemned his speech and ideology. On Thursday (May 16), the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica Nuns published a statement to their official Facebook account concerning Butker's commencement address at the university. You'll recall that Butker spoke about degrading matters, including speaking about his wife's "life beginning" when she became his wife and later, a mother.

Dell Rapids' Jack Henry named Argus Leader Student of the Week
Our Student of the Week winner for the week of May 17, and the last for this school year, is Jack Henry, of Dell Rapids High School. Henry was nominated by their school to participate in the last week in our newest initiative, celebrating high school students across Lincoln and Minnehaha counties. The winner is usually determined by a poll with votes from the public between Monday and Thursday, but Henry was the only nomination received this week as school districts wrap up for the year.
