GRAND RAPIDS—The Minnesota North-Mesabi Range baseball team had their hands full with division-leading Itasca on Thursday as the Norse fell twice in a doubleheader, 15-1 and then 10-0. Deer River's Watkins wins Knights of Columbus free throw championship
Josie Watkins, a 12-year-old participant from Deer River, MN , won first place at the state Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship held at Cathedral School in St Cloud, MN on Saturday, April 6. She competed with 10 other 12-year-old girls who were region winners from throughout the state. She made 18 baskets out of 25 free throw attempts and tied with another 12-year-old girl. In the first tie-breaker round she made four baskets out of five attempts to win the 1st place trophy. There were seven other girls and boys, ages 10-14 that were winners from the Knights of Columbus Northeast Minnesota region who participated in the State KofC Free Throw Championship, but didn’t win any of the three 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place trophies presented for each age and gender. It was a memorable experience for all participants in St. Cloud at the Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Championship. Congratulations to Josie!
