Low-income housing project The Lofts in downtown Visalia embraces history
Members of Visalia Heritage, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving local history, once had dreams of recreating Fort Visalia, the site where Visalia began in 1852. Susan Mangini advocated for the site to be made into a city square, re-creating the fort as a gathering place for events, student education, and tourism. Architect Michael Kreps had a rendering of what the fort might have looked like. Local historian Terry Ommen hounded the city council to do archeological diggings to see if any fort remnants remained.

So far in 2023 Lennar Homes has permitted 804 new homes compared to next in line Wilson Homes with 395. Granville and Woodside Homes are third and fourth in the ranking.
