Surry Early College High School of Design names Tina Beasley as Volunteer of the Year
Tina Beasley has been selected as Surry Early College High School of Design’s Volunteer of the Year. Beasley, an employee of Northern Regional Hospital, has volunteered her time to establish and sponsor the HOSA Club for students at the school. “Under her guidance, the club has achieved remarkable success, earning the designation of a Gold Star Chapter in its first year—an achievement unheard of for a new chapter and again this year,” school officials said. “Tina’s commitment extends beyond HOSA. She regularly volunteers on campus, organizing events such as blood drives and facilitating opportunities for students to engage with healthcare professionals through hospital tours and mock interviews. Her efforts have greatly enriched the experiences of our students and exemplify the spirit of volunteerism. Tina’s dedication and impact make her deserving of this honor.”
Dobson Celebrates Over 60 Graduates from Surry Community College's HSE and AHS Programs
Surry Community College (SCC) recently held a graduation ceremony for over 60 students who completed their High School Equivalency (HSE) and Adult High School (AHS) diplomas in the 2023-2024 academic year. The event took place on May 3, 2024, at the SCC Gymnasium in Dobson, marking the college's 34th HSE commencement. Of these, 34 graduates attended the ceremony to receive their diplomas in the presence of family, friends, and faculty.
Yadkin Early College Class of 2024
Yadkin Early College students concluded their high school careers on Friday with a commencement ceremony held at Union Grove Baptist Church in Yadkinville. All of the 54 graduates completed college credits in addition to receiving their high school diploma, with most also obtaining an associates degree from Surry Community College. Franklin Elementary fifth grade students headed to Virginia Tech
Four fifth graders from Franklin Elementary School have been accepted into the Summer Enrichment Experience at Virginia Tech (SEE VT). This is a residential week-long camp on VT’s campus. Local Scholars Lead: WCC Announces Marshals for Upcoming Commencement
Wilkes Community College has announced the selection of marshals for its 58th Annual Commencement Ceremony, which will take place on May 16, 2024. The event will be held at the John A. Walker Community Center on the Wilkes Campus, with two ceremonies to accommodate all graduates. The first ceremony, for the Arts and Sciences Division and Business and Public Service Technology Division graduates, will start at 4 p.m. The second, for the Applied Career Technology Division and Health Sciences Division graduates, will begin at 7 p.m.

Surry Community College will offer a Class B Truck Driving course this summer at The Yadkin Center. Registration opens on June 4 at 10 a.m. The course prepares students to drive vehicles like delivery trucks, cement trucks, and dump trucks, which require a Class B license. This license is needed to drive any single vehicle that weighs 26,001 pounds or more.
