Severe Weather Hits Several Counties Late Sunday
Several area counties received storm damage late Sunday afternoon this on the Memorial Day weekend as severe weather moved through. In Glasgow people at a campground near James River Road and Recreation Lane were temporarily trapped as trees fell from the very high winds. “While working on scene, Chief 2 was notified by staff that a second tree had fallen on a cabin with occupants still inside. Units made their way to the cabin and were able to clear the entrance and assist the occupants out.” Glasgow VFD said in a Facebook post.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Thousands of people from different walks of life and corners of the country came to Arlington National Cemetery Sunday to pay their respects. “It was awe inspiring really," said Brady Mata, a first-time visitor from Washington state. “You always read, looking at some of the memorials in D.C., they say freedom is not free and this really exemplifies that.”
‘Illegal’ Baby Alligator Finds New Home in Virginia
LURAY, Va. – Spotsylvania Animal Control, a division of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office (SSO), recently helped a juvenile reptile find a safe and legal home. According to a May 22, 2024 SSO media release, a baby alligator was recently confiscated from a Spotsylvania residence. Such creatures are not native to Virginia, and personal ownership without proper licensing is illegal throughout the Commonwealth.

WRIC 8 News reported that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed HB 1071 into law which will allow localities to reduce speed limits on certain Virginia roads to keep pedestrians safe.

The Virginia Department of Wildlife answers many questions about deer in the state on its website. The white tail deer is most prominent in the Commonwealth. They are beautiful to look at, but children need to know they are unpredictable wild animals that may cause harm.
A New Virginia bill allows families to take in children and prevent a need for Foster Care
