Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City junior thrower Kyleigh Wallace is a first time state qualifier in the Discus after punching her ticket to State at the IHSA 1A Altamont Girls Sectional on Wednesday. In the Discus event, Wallace would step in the ring and come up just three inches shy of the state qualifying standard with her first throwing attempt, but would throw 112’ 6” with her second attempt to surpass the qualifying standard of 109’ 9”. After making Finals, Wallace would surpass the standard again with her final attempt of the day and would bring home a first place finish with her best throw of 112’ 6”, besting the second place finisher from Altamont by 16’ 2”. Wallace will compete in the Prelims of the IHSA Girls 1A State Track Meet on Thursday, May 16 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. The Shot Put will take place at 11:00am and the Discus event will begin immediately following the completion of the Shot Put.
