Two years ago, our nation celebrated the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which played a significant role in opening doors for girls’ participation opportunities in sports. Throughout the 2021-22 year, the NFHS led the way in promoting the accomplishments and growth of girls sports at the high school level. From a meager 294,000 participants in 1972 before Title IX’s implementation, that number reached 3.2 million by the 50-year mark.

The Mayfield Central School District Board of Education has named Christopher Clapper as the new superintendent of schools. Currently, Clapper is the superintendent of the Alexandria Central School District. His appointment was announced at a special Board of Education meeting on April 16, 2024. He will begin his new role in Mayfield in early July, with a four-year contract.

The Fort Plain Central School District has announced a public hearing, budget vote, and election for the proposed 2024-2025 budget. The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the District Office Conference Room at Harry Hoag Elementary School. The budget will be available for review at the District Office on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for two weeks before the election.
