Tru Sol returns to Laurinburg After 5
LAURINBURG — Those looking for good music and fun have to look no further than downtown Laurinburg on Friday. The second Hasty Realty Laurinburg After Five is set to kick off at 6 p.m. at McDuffie Square featuring the Tru Sol. Friday night event will also be the first standalone Laurinburg After Five of the year as last month’s Too Much Sylvia during the Suds and Swine BBQ Festival.

ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County residents were shagging in Cole Plaza as Gary Lowder and Smokin’ Hot fired up the Plaza Jam summer concert series Thursday evening. The band’s set list included several Beach Music hits as well as a tribute to horn-heavy bands Earth, Wind and Fire and Chicago.
Jersey Mike’s Day raises $24K for SMF
The numbers are in and Jersey Mike’s Laurinburg and Pembroke stores garnered $24,053 for the Scotland Memorial Fund on Jersey Mike’s Day, held on March 30. Ron Gibson, the Laurinburg store’s owner, said the Laurinburg store ranked number 22 out of 2,500 stores across the nation in sales. Woodworker, seamstress featured as May’s Artists of the Month
LAURINBURG — Featuring a woodworker and a seamstress for May, the Arts Council of Scotland County (ACSC) is proceeding with its Artist of the Month series. Woodworker Robert “Bob” Ewald said he thinks living next door to a sawmill influenced his interest in wood. Then, taking shop class his senior year in high school, he made his first turned bowl and piece of furniture. That experience stayed with him, and later in life, he took up woodworking again as a hobby.

HAMLET — Live music returns to the Seaboard City on Friday for the 2024 season of the Boxcar Concert Series. Kicking off the third season is the Jonathan Robinson Band. Robinson is a native of Hamlet, who returned to Richmond County after several years playing around Nashville. His bandmates are Joe Felice on bass and Rob Dufresne on drums and harmonica, both of whom contribute to backing and a few lead vocals.
Hamlet’s Walk and Wag to benefit local animal organizations
HAMLET — Dog owners are invited to bring their canine companions out to Main Street Park early Saturday for the third annual Walk and Wag. Mechelle Preslar, director of community engagement, told the RO in 2022 that the inspiration for the event was both her love for animals and the desire for an event where animals are welcome — “but at the same time ask for donations to help the ‘less fortunate’ animals that haven’t been lucky enough to find their forever home.”
