Freddy’s set to open Laurinburg location Tuesday
LAURINBURG — Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, a fast-casual restaurant concept, opens Tuesday at 1402 S. Main St. Freddy’s is known for its cooked-to-order steakburgers made with lean 100% ground beef, all-beef hot dogs, shoestring fries and frozen custard treats made with freshly churned chocolate or vanilla frozen custard.

Warm, sunny weather brought out swarms of people to the Festival of the Arts held Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown Laurinburg. The festival featured music, dancers, cheerleaders, and artisans selling homemade wares like tablecloths and runners, woodwork items, and jewelry. Vendors also sold inflatable toys, t-shirts, hats, and more. Food trucks offered everything from turkey legs, BBQ, and fried fish to gourmet funnel cakes and ice cream. There was also a gaming truck.

Celebrating historic women
Total Women Outreach Ministry recently held its 2024 March Women’s History Month Celebration at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church. The celebration aimed to acknowledge outstanding women in various facets of life. More than 100 were in attendance at the event that included words of diversity, inclusion and equity from keynote speaker Barbara M. Pierce, the mayor of Wagram. The catered event also featured fashion models, Essence By Design and DJ Pete Nature.
Arts Alive shines spotlight on Richmond County students’ creativity
HAMLET — The creative talents of students from the Richmond County Schools district were on display this week at Cole Auditorium. Artwork from students in a variety of mediums — including paintings, drawings and sculptures — filled the lobby of the Cole, while the auditorium hosted several musical performances.
