Members of Visalia Heritage, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving local history, once had dreams of recreating Fort Visalia, the site where Visalia began in 1852. Architect Michael Kreps had a rendering of what the fort might have looked like. Local historian Terry Ommen hounded the city council to do archeological diggings to see if any fort remnants remained.
