Top honors announced for FHSU’s Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting
The Department of Economics, Finance, and Accounting announces its Student of the Year Awards for the 2023-2024 academic year for each major in the department: accounting, finance, and international business and economics. Students graduating in the 2023-2024 academic year were eligible to receive this award. The faculty from each discipline selected the award recipients.
FHSU welcomes five Schmidt Foundation Scholars, including Osborne student, for fall 2024
For the fourth consecutive year, the Schmidt Foundation will provide full-ride scholarships to five exceptional Fort Hays State University students. Over the past several weeks, Fort Hays State representatives visited area high schools to surprise each student in person. These announcements included life-changing news that the Schmidt Foundation would cover a full-ride scholarship for the students to attend FHSU beginning in the fall 2024 semester.

Fort Hays State University plans spring commencement ceremonies
Fort Hays State University will recognize approximately 1,666 graduates during its spring commencement ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, May 10-11. Graduates who have chosen to participate in person will be honored in two ceremonies on Friday and two ceremonies on Saturday at Gross Memorial Coliseum (GMC). All graduates will be recognized in two virtual ceremonies on Saturday afternoon.
⚾2-1 TMP Regional bracket set
KSHSAA released the 2-1A Hays-TMP baseball regional bracket Saturday and the Monarchs are the two-seed and will open with the No. 7 seed Bennington on Friday May 10th. Sacred earned the No. 1 seed and will take on the winner of the play-in game between No. 8 seed Little River and No. 9 seed Ellis. That game will be played at 3 p.m. in Salina. The Knights then will take on the winner at 5 p.m.
🏀 McFarland to coach at Hays Middle School
HAYS - Rose McFarland was approved as a new Hays Middle School girls' basketball coach at Monday's Hays USD 489 school board meeting. McFarland had served as the head coach of the TMP-Marian girls basketball program for the past 12 seasons and a total of 17 seasons where she amassed a record of 257-107.
Child Care Champion: 45-year child care veteran says kindness key for kids
Melinda Fross, 65, has been a child care provider for 45 years but said she does not intend to retire anytime soon. "I love it that much. I need my purpose to get up in the morning," she said. "I have absolutely no intentions of retiring yet. If God keeps my health good, that is where I'm staying."
⚾ FHSU drops MIAA Tournament opener at #2 Central Missouri
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team took an early 3-0 lead in its first postseason game in 11 seasons, but conference champion and second-ranked Central Missouri scored the final five runs to take game one of the MIAA Championship quarterfinal series Friday evening, 5-3. The Tigers (25-25) scored three runs in the fourth inning before the Mules (44-6) answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the fifth before hanging on for the win.
