Day One: On the first day, there was a delay because the course got almost four inches of rain the night before. There was plenty of casual water and the bunkers were chukker full, so we played lift, clean, and place and were allowed to drop out of the bunkers (if we could even get the ball out of those little lakes). The guys all got started on hole 10 in 10-minute intervals and from the beginning all struggled to do better than bogey, so we were behind in our minds from the get-go. The back nine seems to play a little harder, and we had to deal with some course conditions that obviously weren’t there when we played our practice round on Friday. The boys shot a 331 team score, which is about average for us, but at state, average doesn’t move you on. At the end of the day, Luke Donovan’s 77 was the only score to make the cut, which was 81 or better. It was disappointing not to take a team into Tuesday’s competition, but we were all happy for Luke and glad he could represent all of us for another round.
