Local alliance earns vaping-prevention grant
The Northwest Wisconsin Lung Health Alliance covering Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Iron, Sawyer and Washburn counties, has been awarded a $200,000 grant by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to help youths and young adults stay away from vaping. The regional project aims to address vaping prevention, intervention and treatment strategies among young adults on college campuses, specifically at University of Wisconsin-Superior, Northland College and Northwoods Technical College. Meat-processing grants available
Bayfield County has gone on record supporting local meat processors in rural areas of the state. At present local producers schedule harvest dates for livestock years in advance. In 2022 Bayfield County passed a resolution urging the state to add state inspectors to help smaller rural processors and to encourage the state and UW Extension to support succession planning for current meat processors. Report: Housing crisis still crippling the Bay Area
Nearly half the homes in Bayfield County and over 25% of the homes in Ashland County are vacant, University of Wisconsin Extension’s Kelly Westlund told a packed room Saturday morning at Chequamegon Democrats headquarters as she addressed the housing crisis hitting the Bay Area and the nation.
