Southeast Kentucky African-American Museum among recipients of 'In These Mountains: Infrastructure Grant'
South Arts recently announced in a statement the inaugural recipients of the In These Mountains: Infrastructure Grants. Three organizations — The Southeast Kentucky African-American Museum and Cultural Center in Hazard; Quilt Alliance in Asheville, North Carolina; and The Appalachian Rekindling Project in Knoxville, Tennessee — are receiving $30,000 grants to advance their work in supporting the folk arts and traditional culture of Central Appalachia.

Work continues in Hazard to establish a brick and mortar home for the Southeast Kentucky African American Museum and Cultural Center. The organization began in 2020 and currently has an online presence through a website and social media.

The next rising star in country music could very well be one of Perry County's very own. Ben Fugate, a 24-year-old native of Viper and a 2018 graduate of Perry Central High School and the lead for Ben Fugate and the Burning Trash Band, is set to release his next album on April 12.
