ADA — Columbus Grove's and Pandora-Gilboa track and field teams had a successful Division III district meet at Ada last week. The two programs combined to nearly advance athletes in every event to this weeks Division III regional meet at Fostoria. In the girls meet the two programs combined to advance in 16 events, while the boys teams advanced in 15 events.

DELPHOS — The 15th and final Nathan Miller Memorial Baseball Tournament will be held at Stadium Park from May 31st to June 2nd. This annual event is one of the premier little league tournaments in the region, attracting nearly 20 teams from across Northwest Ohio and Indiana. Winners are awarded ten-speed bikes, and the joy is evident as players ride their prizes around the diamond.

PCL — The Putnam County League (PCL) unveiled its 2024 all-conference baseball selections. Shawnee Country Club’s Eric Schaaf and Brady Schroeder posted a net Four-Ball score of 66 to win the Old Pal at Stone Oak Country Club in Holland on Wednesday. This marks the second straight year that a pairing from Shawnee has won this event with a score of 66.

AYERSVILLE — Ottoville’s Garrett Trentman had quite a meet at the Ayersville Division III district championships on Saturday. Trentman had a hand in three district championships as he swept both the 110 and 300 hurdle events.

OTTOVILLE — Leipsic had the offense working early Friday evening in a 15-2, five inning, Putnam County League win over Ottoville. The win clinched an outright PCL title for the Vikings with a 7-0 record and they are 21-2 overall.

FORT JENNINGS — In their regular season clash, the Fort Jennings Musketeers (14-6) and the Jefferson Wildcats (4-14) left it all on the field, with Calvin Menke’s walk-off hit sealing a thrilling 1-0 victory for the Musketeers in the seventh inning. Fast forward to Tuesday night, and the stakes were even higher in their sectional semi-final rematch.

Friday, May 10, 2024 — One inning made the difference on Friday night as Patrick Henry moves on to the OHSAA DIV District Semifinal defeating Continental 4-1. The Pirates entered the game on a 10 game winning with a number of the games being decided with a Pirate comeback. After an uneventful first inning it was the Pirates who had a great opportunity to take a lead in the top of the second as Reagan Clemens would get on with a single and steal a base. Ella Siefer would bunt her way on while advancing Clemens to third. The Pirates had 1st and 3rd with no outs. Siefer moved to second on a stolen base but the Patriots would shut down the Pirates to keep the game scoreless. The Patriots took the lead in the bottom of the third when they earned the only walk of the game, advanced the runner to second on a wild pitch. An infield single where the Pirate made an errant throw to third allowed the runner to score. Patriots 1-0. The Pirates would match that run in the top of the fourth as Clemens would lace a one out double and score when Allie Weller would single in the tying run. 1 all. The Patriots would put 3 on the board in the bottom of the fourth as they would start the inning out by loading the bases. A strikeout made out 1. The Pirates would get out 2 when a grounder down first baseline was caught and the runner was tagged out but the first run of the inning scored. The next batter cleared the bases with a single. Patriots 4-1. The next 2 innings the only runner the Pirates would get was another base hit by Clemens. In the top of the seventh Senior Kaitlyn Bidlack would get a single and move to second on an error. A sacrifice bunt would move her to third but that would be all for the Pirates. Patriots 4-1.
