The Barton County Planning Commission has been extra busy with solar regulations since last May. Thursday morning, the panel wrapped up the first stage of those regulations, but not before conducting some routine business. The commission recommended approval on two new structures at 528 Southwest 30 Road just off US-56 Highway northeast of Dundee. Grant Moon with Mid America Seed, LLC, said the structures are for fertilizer resale.

Small-town renaissance: Rising leaders help two Kansas communities defy expectations
There’s a commonly held belief that small, rural Kansas communities are evaporating from the windswept plains, plagued by a dwindling, aging population, and haunted by pressures of a modern world. Last week, Senate Bill 500 regarding license suspensions for failure to pay went before the Kansas Senate Judiciary Committee. A similar bill failed to gain traction last year. Kansas Appleseed Center for Law and Justice has been a big proponent behind changes to existing law, and Deputy Director Mike Fonkert is hopeful for change this session.

A total of 21 projects from across the state will receive almost $1.4 million, along with more than $3.4 million in private local matching funds. Included in the grants were the City of Stafford, Stafford County and Pawnee County.
