Deadline looms to apply for Lumbee cords ceremony
PEMBROKE —The deadline to return applications for the Lumbee Cords of Honor Ceremony is April 5. On April 25, the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina will honor all Lumbee high school and college students, who are potential 2024 graduates in the Lumbee Cords of Honor Ceremony. Applications are now being accepted for graduates to apply.

UNCP alumnus Zachary Young making his mark in law school
PEMBROKE — When Zachary Young was presented with a second chance to attend UNC Pembroke, he was determined to make the most of it. He’s done just that—and then some. A 2022 UNCP graduate with a degree in Mass Communication (journalism track) and a minor in American Indian Studies, Young is wrapping up his first year at Michigan State University’s College of Law. A member of the Lumbee Tribe, he’s been chosen for a prestigious Udall Foundation Native American Congressional Internship this summer on Capitol Hill. Success seems to be around every corner for him.
CTCA baseball routs Antioch Christian
LAURINBURG — The Christ the Cornerstone Academy Defenders baseball team had its first game of the season against the Antioch Christian Academy Gators Thursday at Legion Park and won 11-2. Senior Malachi Luther started on the mound for CTCA (1-0, 1-0 Carolinas Christian), completing two innings and allowing only one run; juniors Gavin Inman, Mack Hunt and Bryce Haywood all had pitching appearances as well.
