No to 20 pink slips: Community calls for city to save Northampton school staff jobs
NORTHAMPTON — Parents, students and teachers vowed Wednesday night to help persuade council members to increase the mayor’s budget for city schools. The Northampton School Committee approved a level-service budget of $42.8 million in mid-April, or a 14 percent increase over last year. Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra proposed a 4 percent increase to $38 million — which she said was necessary to balance the city budget next year.
