Nelson County Offices and Courts Closed for Memorial Day, Essential Services Continue
Nelson County has announced that its courts, departments, and offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024, for Memorial Day. They will reopen on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. The Transfer Station will also be closed on Saturday, May 25, 2024. However, the County Convenience Centers and all public safety operations in Nelson County will operate as usual during this period. Nelson : County Treasurer Announces Retirement After 30+ Years Service
“After more than three decades of commitment to the citizens of Nelson County, Angela Hicks will retire as Nelson County Treasurer effective August 1, 2024. She was elected Nelson County Treasurer in November 2011. Prior to her career as Treasurer, Hicks served Nelson County in various roles within the county government. In 1990 she was employed as a counselor for the county’s summer recreation program. While continuing to serve in this capacity for the next two summers, she also worked part-time/as-needed for the Commissioner of Revenue.

VERONA – The Augusta County Planning Commission will take up a request to "construct and operate a large solar energy system" spread over five sites. The fenced-in acreage of the project, the way solar energy systems are categorized in Augusta County, is approximately 470 acres. About 114 acres would be directly under panels. Including all other land uses, the total project acreage is 1,693, located in Urban Service Area or Community Development Area of the comprehensive plan.
