Altamont softball will play for a Regional Championship for the second year in a row following a 5-0 win over Hustonville/Palestine in the semifinals of the Hutsonville 1A Regional on Thursday. The Lady Indians jumped on the Tigers in the bottom of the first inning. Claire Boehm drew a lead off walk and after two outs, Laila Hankins doubled to score Boehm and a single from Peyton Osteen would score Hankins for a 2-0 lead. A single from Madison Tonn would bring in Osteen as Altamont would go up 3-0 at the end of the first inning. Both teams would go scoreless in the second inning, but the Lady Indians would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Hankins reached base on a dropped third strike to lead off the inning and P. Osteen grounded into a fielder’s choice with both runners being safe on the play. A single from Tonn would load the bases and Cecilia Pearcy drew a walk to bring a run in. With the bases loaded and two outs, P. Osteen stole home to bring in a another run as the Altamont grew to 5-0. The Indians would be held to just a couple more hits and a few walks the remainder of the game while they continued to hold the Tigers scoreless and close out the 5-0 win. Junior pitcher Grace Lemke twirled a one-hitter on the mound, allowing no runs on one hit and racking up 15 strikeouts in the game. The Lady Indians move to 14-10 on the season and advance to the Regional Championship game on Saturday at Noon at Hutsonville. They will play a very familiar opponent in National Trail Conference rival Windsor/Stew-Stras. The two teams have met twice this season with the games coming just two days apart. In their first meeting on April 13, the Indians fell the Hatchets 12-4 and the following Monday, Altamont suffered a 2-0 loss to the Hatchets.
