VICTORIA, Texas - About 500 students in early childhood at V.I.S.D. have missed over 10% of school days this year. Attendance rates for younger students in V.I.S.D. were as low as 64% some days.
Victoria College Music Department to Host Free Faculty Piano Trio Recital on April 6
Victoria College’s Music Department will host a Faculty Piano Trio Recital featuring Melissa Balli, VC Assistant Professor of Music, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at the college’s Johnson Symposium. The recital will include works by Astor Piazzolla, J.S. Bach and Bedrich Smetana. Joining Balli for the performance will be guest cellist Justin Balli and guest pianist Dr. Marylynn Fletcher. Victoria College and Gonzales ISF Launch Innovative Training for Inmates: A Step Towards Rehabilitation and Local Reintegration
Victoria College is working with the Gonzales Intermediate Sanction Facility (ISF) to offer training in electrical, HVAC, and welding to incarcerated individuals. The aim is to provide them with job skills they didn't have before their incarceration. Bridgette Barfield, the Director of Gonzales ISF, said this is the first time a Texas community corrections facility has offered such training as part of its rehabilitation program. The goal is to help these individuals find jobs that pay a living wage, which can help prevent future incarceration.
Dr. Marisa Pierce Appointed as Victoria College's New VP of Student Services, Aims to Enhance Local Student Experience
Victoria College has named Dr. Marisa Pierce as the new Vice President of Student Services, starting May 13, 2024. Dr. Pierce, a resident of Arlington, Texas, will join the college's Administrative Council and head the Division of Student Services.
