A pair of late 3-putts sent Tiger Woods to a sluggish 1-over start at the PGA Championship
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Tiger Woods figures it took him three holes to get back into the “competitive flow” of tournament golf on Thursday at Valhalla. It may take more than familiar vibes for Woods to stick around for the weekend at the PGA Championship. Like birdies. Maybe a bunch of them.
Louisville native Justin Thomas has outside shot to win PGA title on home turf
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The local hero isn’t out of it. Justin Thomas, the Louisville native who’s being figuratively carried around Valhalla by the roars of the home crowd, is 10-under par entering Sunday’s final round, five shots out of the lead after shooting 67 on Saturday. “It’s been more enjoyable than anything I really thought or could have imagined,’’ Thomas said of playing in front of home crowds. “I mean, I’m very, very excited for [Sunday], and it should be a lot of fun. But I’m pretty bummed that the week is almost over. Just enjoy [Sunday] as much as I can...

Lynch: The course architecture snobs will come for Valhalla. To hell with them!
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For golf architecture aficionados, teeing off on Valhalla Golf Club is a challenge akin to taking a baseball bat to a sackful of puppies, since any spirited defense of its design merits is likely to come only from members, parochial boosters or shameless bullshitters. The snobbery that animates architecture geeks is suspicious of championship courses credited to someone who hasn’t been beneath sod for a century or so. There are exceptions though. A course will get a more favorable hearing if it has a noble pedigree or was made over by a young(ish), still vital designer who is...
