RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Coming off a big loss against Oak Knoll, the Ridgewood girls lacrosse team only had one more chance to reclaim momentum ahead of their NJSIAA tournament matchup on Friday. They made a major statement against West Morris Mendham, riding a big second to victory. The first half was neck-in-neck throughout the afternoon, with Ridgewood narrowly edging their opponents by a margin of 5-4 in the first quarter. In a season filled with ups and downs, Kinnelon has continued to stay focused and play its brand of lacrosse, guided by first-year coach John Mortimer. Coming into its first round matchup in the state tournament against 10th-seeded Ramsey, which won the title in the Independence Red Division this season, seventh-seeded Kinnelon wanted to go into Memorial Day Weekend with not only a win but an opportunity to extend its season.
