Fentanyl use on Platte River trail scares parkgoers, resident tells Denver City Council
Phillip Moreno says the recreational trail along the Platte River in Denver's Globeville neighborhood is an open-air drug den. Near Washington and 45th, up to 20 people congregate at all hours and use drugs, he told the City Council during public comment Monday. “What I see is a confluence of circumstances with essentially homeless shelters, the recycling industry and (lack of enforcement). Police don’t go onto the path because it’s dangerous for them and the park service has a limited number of resources. So, what’s allowed to happen is this little festering pocket of an issue. It’s really affecting a community that gives a lot to this city and doesn’t get a whole lot in return.”
