Fatal Police Chase On Southwest Side Puts Car Pursuit Policy Back In Spotlight
MCKINLEY PARK — A high-speed police chase early Tuesday on the Southwest Side ended in a person dying in a crash, reigniting questions about the dangers of police pursuits. About 2 a.m. Tuesday, officers on patrol for robberies in the 5500 block of South Pulaski Road “attempted to investigate” a black Lexus sedan occupied by two people officers thought had guns, police said. Police did not say why they thought the people had guns.

Wood Dale man pleads guilty in Bensenville DUI crash that killed stepdaughter last year
A Wood Dale man pleaded guilty Wednesday to driving under the influence, in a crash that killed his stepdaughter last year.Police say Juan Moxthe crashed into a guardrail about 2:30 a.m. Dec. 17, in the 12100-block of West Irving Park Road near O'Hare airport in Bensenville.ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watchHis vehicle, with three other family members inside, flipped over several times.Jaylene Escamilla, 28, of Addison was thrown from the vehicle, and died.The two other people in the car, a 50-year-old woman, Moxthe's wife, and a 30-year-old man, Escamilla's husband, were treated by paramedics at the scene, police said.Moxthe, seriously injured in the crash, was initially taken to a hospital.Moxthe was allegedly driving with a 0.12 BAC level, which is over the legal limit of 0.08, authorities said.They had been drinking at a Rosemont bar to celebrate Escamilla's birthday. Escamilla would have turned 29 the next day, ABC7 Chicago news partner the Daily Herald reported.Moxthe pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI causing death.He could be sentenced to probation or up to 14 years in prison. He remains free on pretrial release while awaiting sentencing.He's next due in court Nov. 13.

3 hurt after wrong-way crash on DuSable Lake Shore Drive
CHICAGO (CBS) — Three people were hospitalized after a wrong-way crash Thursday morning on DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The crash happened just before 4 a.m. in the 1100 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Chicago police said a vehicle entered southbound, traveling the wrong way when it struck an oncoming vehicle heading northbound. Two females in the striking car were taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition. A man in the second vehicle was also taken to Northwestern in good condition for chest pain. The northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive from Chicago to Michigan were closed for investigation. The lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m.Citations are pending.
