CHICAGO — Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:54 PM CDT on September 7, 2024. Beach Hazards Statement: Dangerous Waves and Currents Continue on Lake Michigan. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago/Romeoville has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Lake, Northern Cook, and Central Cook counties in Illinois, and Lake and Porter counties in Indiana. This statement remains in effect until 4 AM CDT Sunday, with waves expected to reach 3 to 6 feet along Lake Michigan. The high wave action and dangerous currents create life-threatening swimming conditions, particularly for inexperienced swimmers. Residents and visitors are advised to stay out of the water and avoid piers, jetties, breakwalls, and other shoreline structures.

While Neuqua Valley High School graduate Grace Brady and Naperville Central High School senior Iris Shadis-Greengas each did their own class project on climate change, both had a hand in bringing about legislation on the subject as it relates to education.
